Dog Walk Philosophy: Yesterday’s Blog Post Is Not Today’s Blog Post

I walk my dog every morning. Most mornings we walk pretty much the same route. So I decided to give myself a challenge. Find something unique along the path I tread daily and take a photo. Somedays there will be something genuinely new. Others I will have to find a way to shoot the mundane with a new perspective.

So, my last blog post is, by far, the most popular one since I started this website a couple of weeks ago, and for good reason. It was a profoundly personal bit of writing and photography. It also benefitted from what I call the Aliya bump. My wife has a faithful group of people who actively engage in her writing and social media. I benefited from that community when she shared my blog post on her page.

It was the best combination of good work and good marketing, resulting in a “viral” moment for a very young blog with a modest following, which makes this a precarious moment for its future.

Do I change the focus of the blog from talking about my experiences as a creative to writing even more personal stories or do I stay on my intended path and risk losing this new audience who may not care about my musings on writing and photography?

My next blog post is on artificial intelligence and photography, not the most romantic of subjects.

Viral moments are a helluva drug. And like any drug, we’ll make bad choices to get another hit of that dopamine.

I could easily dedicate this entire blog to my marriage. In our four years together Aliya and I have created enough content to last a lifetime. But to go down that path would be disingenuous as to why I created this space in the first place. I want to explore my thoughts and experiences as a creative and in the process, possibly help you with your endeavors.

I may lose some eyeballs by staying the course in the short run. If I can keep a third of this new audience it would be a win. But, staying authentic to the purpose of this project will ensure that I don’t hate what I’m doing. And, isn’t that the real point of any endeavor?
